Version 8.x-3.18 breaks front end of website when upgrading from 3.16 with Dashboards with Layout Builder installed.

Problem/Motivation

The new display suite module update (version 3.18) appeared to break my website after I updated it, until I downgraded it back to 3.16. It broke my site by making the frontend part of website not useable, but kept the admin Drupal sections still useable. This error appeared to be a conflict with the Dashboards with Layout Builder module version 2.1.6. I am currently using Drupal version 10.2.2 and I had version 10.2.1 installed when I installed Display Suite 3.18. Also, I installed these modules and Drupal with Composer and am using DDEV, and Docker to create a local container based development site.

Later, I updated the website to Display Suite version 8.x-3.17 and no error was created.

Steps to reproduce

In order to reproduce the error have a website with Drupal version 10.2.1 or 10.2.2, Dashboards with Layout Builder version 2.1.6, and Display Suite verson 8.x-3.16. I specifically have the Dashboards with Layout Builder included modules of Dashboards and Dashboards with Views, and the Display Suite included modules of Display Suite and Display Suite Devel installed. Then update Display Suite to 8.x-3.18.

Proposed resolution

When I have time, I will check if the error occurs with a fresh site install on ddev with both the display suite and dashboards with layout builder modules installed, but if someone else has the time to do this before me, feel free to do so. I will post an update on how this goes here when and if I get the chance to do so.

The solution may be lie with the similar Drupal Core issue of 2976148 β†’ .
