Option for downloading when used for a multimedia field

Created on 16 January 2024, 5 months ago

I have an "Information" content type, with a single "Media" field where users can add images or files. I really like having the images show in a slideshow as expected, but if there are any files it just seems to break and doesn't seem to be an easy option for the user to view or download the file as would be expected.

Has anyone else run into this issue, and how did you handle it? Any suggestions appreciated as it would be rather painful to have to go through every Information node and separate the multimedia field into distinct "Image" and "File" media fields.

I believe this is issue (and potential solution) is with Photoswipe, not Splide.

Could you perhaps give more details how to reproduce this and eventually screenshots to better understand the issue?

Downloading is not a feature of photoswipe.

I think the download part actually works fine, but it is very difficult to actually click on the link that opens in Photoswipe. So it likely just needs a style update.

I'm attaching two screenshots of a simple node that has a Powerpoint media file attached, and then what the download link looks like when it opens in Photoswipe.

I think the link and text should be larger and easily legible.

We're not changing the style, just using the Photoswipe defaults. So the actual style depends on your theme and should be styled individually, that's not a module's job, I think. Especially as Photoswipe already provides its default styling that we should not change.

Maybe this helps for a custom implementation:

I can't see anything we could or should do in the module here, sorry.
