Uninstall core comments (in preparation of the new OC discussions feature)

Core comments had been prematurely enabled but never received attention. Now that we are working on an alternative concept for discussions we're planning to disable comments (avoid confusion).

Any objections?

Reasons against using core comments and in favor of node-based comments:

  • Legacy issues in templating/theming comments
  • The user-based approach contradicts the OpenCulturas strategy (user is always acting on behalf of a profile)
  • Given OC components/concepts can be re-used with a node-based approach (e. g. moderation workflows/notifications
  • Nodes integrate better with the site builder-friendly mantra

I am aware of many experienced Drupalistas having a strong opinion about using node bundles that way and some might argue that you'd better use custom entities for this if not comments with a lot of tweaks and bendings.

Yet OpenCulturas was built with newcomers in mind. We want them to easily learn given concepts and (site-)build upon these, with a not-so-steep learning curve. If you can subscribe to that, you are very welcome to discuss alternatives ;-)
