This was related to a local patch we add to the module....
In 🐛 AD Groups no longer mapping to Drupal roles Fixed a bug was fixed so groups are mapped to roles. However, this fix was not complete, and mapping still doesn't work.
Install the module, create a mapping and test.
Change the if statement in the openid_connect_windows_aad.module file on line 41.
Create a patch
