For structured content and layout consistency, site builders/architects often have to create many different view modes in order to render images for various content types and related displays (for further discussion on that, see ✨ Allow editing of Width and Height of embedded images Active ). The issue is that when a site requires a lot of view modes, the list of view modes at /admin/structure/display-modes/view can get very long and difficult to search.
Recently, ✨ Incremental filter for permissions page Fixed was committed to core. Let's do the same for the View modes admin page. If this feature request is wanted/welcomed/green lit by the community, it may or may not need to be postponed on ✨ Create Javascript library for searching rendered lists on the client. Needs work

I don’t have enough information to tell if a lot of view modes is common on not. If it is, then an incremental filter like that would make sense for sure.
