Call to undefined function media_access() in media_gallery_view_item_access()

Problem/Motivation

PHP 7.4 Drupal core 7.98

I updated to latest versions: D7 Media to 7.x-4.5 and Media Gallery to 7.x-1.4 and the gallery pages and media items becomes inaccessible with WSOD error with the following log message,

Error: Call to undefined function media_access() in media_gallery_view_item_access() (line 1498 of /home2/public_html/sites/all/modules/media_gallery/media_gallery.module).

Media Gallery 7.x-1.4 support only D7 Media 7.x-1.x! You need to downgrade D7 Media
