Just want to add some notes to this, as ive been using this patch for string_long field types and it's working well.
It's possibly worth mentioning that a lot of fields that we probably wouldn't want to replace on are now exposed with this change, moderation state, revision log and the likes (IE Non content fields). Thats possibly why the decision was made to not have this field type as something to search on?
Either way, the patch works well for the configured fields im using.

Definitely something we that needs to be considered though. We don’t want want other fields to be picked up
