Include Aggregator source in Planet Drupal blog list

Created on 24 June 2023, over 1 year ago

Problem

Currently, this is how a blog is listed on https://www.drupal.org/planet:

The Accidental Coder (feed)

Clicking the "feed" link opens an XML file, where you can't click the links.

Proposed solution

The links are clickable in the aggregator source, which is more useful, so that could be included:

The Accidental Coder ( source , feed)

Are you referring to the block to the right, the one with the following description?

Planet Drupal aggregates broadly appealing, Drupal-related blog posts pertaining to the community at large (code, advocacy, marketing, infrastructure etc.). If you would like your blog to be included in the Planet, read the requirements and steps on how to join.

Yes, sorry it wasn't clear enough. I am updating the Issue Summary.

I asked to be sure I understood to which block you were referring.
That is a custom block created by one of the custom modules/features used for drupal.org.

The block is implemented by the Drupal.org news module, in drupalorg_news_block_view(). Since it fetches information from the aggregator_feed table, it could also show a link to the aggregator source.

Sounds great. So should the status be changed to needs work, if you think it is a good idea, so someone can look at it at some point?

  • 🇮🇹Italy apaderno Brescia, 🇮🇹

I would leave the status as it is now.
As site moderator, I would find a link to the aggregator source much helpful to handle all the requests that are about existing feeds that do not provide a link to the original request to add the feed. The point of view from other users would be helpful too, though; that is why I would keep the current status.

Sure, let's see what the other users think.

This requires a code change in one of the custom modules used on drupal.org. Given drupal.org is migrating to Drupal 10, it is probable this feature request will be postponed.

Thanks for looking at this so fast @avpaderno, let's revisit when drupal.org is on Drupal 10 :)

I'll change the Version as well as Status.

Or should this issue be moved to https://www.drupal.org/project/aggregator since Aggregator module is no longer in Drupal core? If it still needs custom coding, it can of course stay here.

Since there is already a custom module used for the block showing that information, I guess that module will be ported to Drupal 10. Only the maintainers of this project know what the plan is, though.
