I find that even the sections that were not renamed or anything can randomly get this issue. This makes the module almost unusable for me in D10 but I have built quite a large volume of layouts to go back.

I tried to reproduce this myself now but everything kept working. Meanwhile just yesterday I have to recreate a page because all of a sudden the page wouldn't load anymore after I added a new section and also on another page I had to recreate two sections cos all of a sudden I couldn't edit the sections anymore. The sections were editable all the while for many days.
The issue pops up erratically so I myself couldn't reproduce it now.

Thank you @drp_distruptor I encountered this issue again and tried the patch you mentioned and it solved it.
