This module seem very useful to me and to all the people willing to optimize their websites and reduce the impact of their images on the planet. Thank you for making it!
It seem that there is a bit of tangling between the main and the 1.0.x branches and that you don't have the time to make this work for D10.
As I'm most likely to need this module in the future, I'd like to propose my help as co-maintainer.
Being a co-maintainer, I'd first untangle the branches so we can follow Drupal community standards and guidelines and avoid having contributions on the wrong codebase (like I did today), then I'll commit the D10 compatibility and examine the other issues.
I hope you'll give me my chance to push your module forward for the greater good.
