Online Events or Webinars Targeted at Drupal 7 Site Owners

Problem/Motivation

Some Drupal 7 site owners will probably be more responsive to live or streamed events where they have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with other people on the topic of Drupal 7 EOL.

Proposed resolution

I am proposing either one or two mini-conferences focused on Drupal 7 Soft Landing or possibly a series of Webinars/Sessions. Maybe something like Backdrop LIVE: https://events.backdropcms.org/

The idea for a mini conference would be a single day event with 2-3 tracks of 50 minute presentations as well as an opportunity for information BOF type sessions. The schedule would focus on a variety of curated and community proposed topics any of which might help a Drupal 7 site owner figure out their next steps.

Goals

Provide programming targeted very specifically at Drupal 7 site owners.
Encourage and support agencies with information and ideas to help them move Drupal 7 site owners to a better place.
Increase awareness of impending Drupal 7 EOL
Provide Drupal 7 owners with good information about Modern Drupal AND other alternatives that might better meet their needs.

The biggest challenge will be reaching the target audience. For this to be successful, we'll need to figure out how to reach them. Either through messaging on Drupal.org or potentially raising some limited funds for some targeted advertising.

Remaining tasks

Figure out if we have an outreach strategy that will make this worth it.
Do we have any Drupal Association support or resources to reach D7 site owners.
Decide on format. Large day long events or a series of shorter webinars.

A miniconference sounds like a good idea. I'd be interested in helping with that.

I also would be interested in a smaller event, such as a webinar or "office hours" event that helps site owners with the first steps of assessing their site and helping them plan next steps.

markdorison, your company, Chromatic's Drupal 7 Roadmap 45 minute workshop sounds very similar to what I had in mind.

Also, I'm involved in the Nonprofit Technology Network's Drupal Community of Practice and Denver Drupal's meetup. I could see an event like this happening through either of those communities.
