$tagwas defined in 7.x-2.x when token was parsed using [[ and ]] https://git.drupalcode.org/project/media/-/blob/7.x-2.x/modules/media_wy..., but didn't survive the change to json.

Use media_wysiwyg. Note by code inspection in media_wysiwyg_token_to_markup() that $tag is used on line 285 and 286 without being given a value.
