PHP 5.6 Error caused by php8 code cleanup

Problem/Motivation

In fixing the code for PHP8 the module now throws a 500 error for PHP 5.6. This issue 🐛 PHP8: deprecated code Fixed details the issue but after that commit was completed a code clean up in this issue 📌 Code style cleanup Fixed created the regression.

Steps to reproduce

Install the module on PHP 5.6

Proposed resolution

I have attached a patch that will fix it again.

Oops - the first errors were the ones that stopped the site from bootstrapping but there are a number of others included in this patch
