At the moment there is a status field on the poll entity, but it doesn't work completely the same as the status/published field on core entities like nodes, taxonomy terms, .... Search API for example checks if the entity implements EntityPublishedInterface to index only published content.
Implement the EntityPublishedInterface and add the published entity key to work conform the core entities.
