Currently we make use of bpmn-io tools to create the user interface for the plugin configuration forms. This toolset is currently not using Drupal Form API, and this leads to some lacks in supporting commonly used components of Drupal's Form API, for example Ajax and States.
We should try to find a way to integrate Drupal Form API cpmponents into bpmn-io.
Maybe it's possible to use a Drupal rendered form as plugin configuration form instead of bpmn-io rendering. But that's just a shot in the dark.
