Thanks to @vlad.dancer there is progress towards having built in media library support through remote media integration.
This issue is meant to give the development team a target to hit in terms of what an integration would look like.

The core remote media selector looks like this
As you can see there is not a remote media selection window that embeds youtube or vimeo in order to select a video that you would like to embed.
