Both have modest but significant adoption. Both have been developed over a period of years to address particular use cases and feature requests. While they provide some overlapping functionality, they take completely different technical and UI approaches.
Update the plan to note both #2960999: Support updating extension-provided config via configuration synchronization API and UI → and 📌 Add update_helper module functionality to core Postponed as options and to use #3263053: Distributions and configuration updates → as our place to decide between, or blend, the two.
