Trying to move this forward, I did a bit of archeology on the project issues page. I think you might be referring to:
- π Config schema is wrong and changing the available blocks for a "Block (plugin)" field produces a Recoverable fatal error RTBC
- #3265564: Crash when trying to save nav-menu block β
- π Crash when adding block Site branding (system_branding_block) to the default value RTBC
- π TypeError: Argument 1 passed to Drupal\Core\Cache\CacheableMetadata::createFromRenderArray() Closed: outdated
- #3223741: Revert adding #id to block render array β ? See related #3206625: ID attribute is missing from blocks rendered by BlockFieldFormatter β
- #3216311: Unsupported operand types β
- #3183182: TypeError: Argument 1 passed to Drupal\Core\Cache\CacheableMetadata::createFromRenderArray() must be of the type array, null given β
IMHO these are worth to consider too before an stable release:
- π¬ Difference in template suggestions between 'regular' block and same block via block_field Postponed
- β¨ Expose field item to context providers Needs review
- β¨ Add IEF and entity_browser module support Needs review
I did also an "intersect" with those listed at #3043558: [META] Path to Beta β , and I might have missed:
- π Block forms are submitted prematurely Active
- #2898354: Allow negating the Block selection β (marked as nice to have)
@Berdir Does this sound like a plan? What's your opinion 1 year after your previous comment?

Bumping, even if I couldn't look at this closer than I liked to yet.
2 of the biggest projects (~25 live sites total) I've participated recently have this module and they are in production (at least one of them for years already without major issues).
Wondering if these are really blockers. - π©πͺGermany kreatIL
To be honest, looking at the number of fatal errors that people are reporting, this module doesn't feel very stable to me.
However, with over 46K websites using this module and the number still growing, doesnβt that suggest the module is stable enough? A stable release would be highly appreciated.
