I think this is a duplicate of 💬 Parent field entity in plugin interface Fixed which I just committed. Does this solve the issue?
Currently, it's hard to manage theming for the View, because Viewsreference array consist only data from the module form. It would be great to have host entity in the $view->element['#viewsreference'] array to get more flexibility in the future.
Add info about host entity to the Viewsreference array.
