Ludwig is nicely supported and it has a descent usage statistic yet (10k+ users).

Drupal Commerce supports it still.
The Automatic Updates Extensions → module, which supports updating contributed modules and themes is still experimental and under heavy development. So, Ludwig is the only available valid solution for the Composer-shy Drupal8+ users still.
However, if you decide not to add Ludwig support to the Stripe module that's ok of course.
