Currently, nothing is displayed in the autocomplete options if there are no results found.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
I think we still need something done in core ... cleanup the queue.
This is a reroll against 8.x-1.7, to give us an intermediary option. Agreed this should stay postponed and we should follow the core issue/solution.
