Version 8.x-2.x and onwards behave exactly like the feature request - clicking on the option removes the vote (no undo button).
We could do this in the D7 version, either by clicking on another option, or clicking on the button a second time. (facebook unlike)
but it doesn't look like its in this version, unless I'm missing it somewhere.
