Perhaps π Already subscribed member gets status "pending" when he/she subscribes using double opt-in, but gets no confirmation mail Needs review (which I just created) is related to this issue?
Only in that issue I report that no confirmation mail is sent when trying to subscribe an existing mail address. This looks to be about no confirmation mail being send for a new subscriber.

@zann1e Are you still having this problem, and are you still on 8.x?

We are facing the same issue. When the 'Require subscribers to Double Opt-in' setting is selected under Signup Form settings, the user is added to the Mailchimp list instantly (with all correct group parameters) but has the status 'Pending'.
We tested this with various new email addresses, multiple domains, and email providers to be sure.
Is the double opt-in email sent directly by Mailchimp and not by Drupal?
We tested this in versions 2.2.3 and 2.2.4 with Drupal 10.3.0.

@matthiaso
Here is the expected behavior
- 'Require subscribers to Double Opt-in' is selected for a form on the Drupal site
- A site visitor subscribes using this form
- The subscription status at Mailchimp is set to 'pending'
- Mailchimp (not the Drupal site) sends a confirmation email to the subscriber
- The subscriber confirms
- The subscription status at Mailchimp is set to 'subscribed'When I was testing this I found that the confirmation email went to the spam folder.
- Status changed to Closed: won't fix
