I think there are good tasks here but it's a different landscape with starshot.
Drupal is coming a long way, and some of the crufty older parts are really showing their age. When you work with certain websites, such as government sites, I've seen some massive menus, and as I edit them I cry about the how non-technical people must manage it.
I've done some (perhaps radical) designs and would be happy to put some more detail into this, but I'm not a UX/Designer, so really it would be fantastic to see these worked up in more detail with community feedback. Anyway these are some ideas to see if this can get some traction.
And of course there is probably and initiative or some conflicting issues, but I can't find much.
Update: Big Menu ( https://www.drupal.org/project/bigmenu → ) is very aligned.
