There are some options in the library that may be useful for various projects, like the min/maxDate.
In other part, it is not possible to use the form element that is defined in the module, it only works when using fields, as several expected options are not documented/defined when using directly the form element.
Moreover, the default settings are defined in the field handler instead of the form element.

The 3.x and 4.x releases provide date Min and Max features.
