Custom Name Options

I’m wondering if the OptionsProvider service should be refactored to tick off a couple of the old D7 issues / feature requests. Maybe too big to consider myself straight away, rather as a deferred enhancement sometime into the future.

I’m thinking that these need to be a custom options type to really seamlessly integrate. This could tick off other inconsistencies / features too. These issues / features being:

• Translation support
• Language specific titles – not to be confused with translation of...
  Mr has the translation Señor in Espanol;
  Ms Miss Mrs are language specific in English & other languages;
  Señora is Spanish only, or translation of Ms (kind of different), etc
• Inconsistent formatting.
  Mr compared with Mr. , Doctor Dr, etc;
• Ability to assign gender neutral public display
  I.e. University request to capture the details, but to hide all gender specific information like Miss, Ms, etc; but showing non-gender specific information like Dr, Prof, etc

for all these, I think the minimal amount of metadata needed would be something like this:

• Label
• Abbreviation
• Language (global or locale specific) / Language(s) maybe
• Gender Male, female, neutral

So much for having a simple list of words ...
