There is no longer an 8.x branch so moving to 2.x.
Currently the login_history module can be extended by other modules:
* to do additional detection about a device
* to do something with the results of that detection
However, it's possible that a separate module will have some knowledge about whether this device is previously known or not. And that knowledge should be leveraged in making the decision about whether or not to send an email to the individual.
