When adding there is an error with the form when in a modal window the error message is being converted to something not very understandable by core.
See example below.
I have tracked down this problem and it is because the widget doesn't have a title but then the title is them taken from a one of the elements in the child entities. This allows the real error messages to be displayed and not grouped into a single unmeaningful error message.
