Make it possible to transfer contents of backend services

Problem/Motivation

I am trying to switch path storage backends. This is impossible as there is no way to figure out what the backend contains.

Proposed resolution

This actually is a special case which could be extended to every backend as defined in #2302617: Define a standard mechaism for backend-aware service overrides → and tagged in #2306071: Tag backend services. → . The proposal is to

  1. Create an interface with a getTransferIterator method on it.
  2. Make backends implement it. Good thing PDO returns iterators...
  3. Every backend service should have a .transfer suffixed transfer service.

    Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

    We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

    Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
