Hello again,

It was “Balzy Photoswipe”, nevertheless I’ve omitted that module and gone with the original Photoswipe.

Also, I really appreciate your comments about “Flag” and the amount of the open issues. Basically that’s why I ask for opinions of experienced users before installing dozens of modules to see if they fit without additional issues. I always create backups before any new module etc installation but even this method has its drawbacks.

“I support my wife's art gallery website” – You’re a true gentleman! : ) Thanks for the advice. Indeed, I wouldn’t dive into Drupal's complexities if I didn’t want to have relatively easier content uploads, manageable filtering, flexible display modalities etc., etc. May be things would be much easier and I’d get away with a few pages of coding (vs Drupal), but clearly, my degree in another area of science doesn't help much with the fact that I'm still a coding illiterate : )

By the way,

After reading this last comment of mine again, I got the impression that it was a bit too Splidebox oriented, which may not be perfectly suitable for the Blazy PhotoSwipe issues area. However this Splidebox, Blazy PhotoSwipe pros/cons matter seems pretty interconnected in this case. So I’m not sure if the Splidebox side should be separated and posted in the other relevant section.

Ultimately, please feel free to unpublish it if you think that would be better.

By the way I’m thinking about posting a new “help needed” topic, maybe here, or maybe there in the Splidebox issues area. It is about, when I try to disable “Splide X” module, due to my odd obsession of disabling unused modules, the Splidebox media switcher target in Media: Blazy disappears too (who would've guessed)

: )

Hello again,

Thanks for direct (in terms of clarifying the current limitations of Blazy Photoswipe and what’s needed for progress) and detailed explanations.

First, I’ve already experimented with nodes approach, as a matter of fact this was a 10 years old site which I started to renovate a few weeks ago (like going to Drupal 10 from 7). Nodes option is not usable for me since I need a dynamic thumbnail grid as the front page (essentially the only page) where visitors may use views’ filtering facilities.

Also the media should be uploaded with a most streamlined process, etc, hence I chose core media library method.

So, no nodes : )

Since you kindly took your precious time explaining things like current differences between various lightbox methods like photoswipe, splidebox, etc., I thought it would be an unparalleled laziness of me to not to try. So I did.

Here are my observations:

Splidebox when selected as a Media switcher target in a Media: Blazy field inserted in fields section of a view indeed (although through somewhat odd procedure) slides and plays local videos.

First you have to click on a thumbnail on that Blazy -> Grid foundation grid, slide to the local video’s thumbnail in question, left click on the thumbnail to observe that play option is not available yet, wait for a few seconds and left click->play option becomes available. Then, watch your video (that cannot be displayed in a correct aspect ratio regardless of attempts to adjust settings, e.g., selecting fluid, etc. Yeah, to be honest, there’s a way to play slideable/swipeable local videos through Splidebox. However I cannot imagine a mainstream person who would be patient and curious enough to follow such a procedure. Let alone they need a proper computer and not a tablet etc.

Of course there’s a non-zero possibility that my tired brain has made mistakes in settings, and things could have been more streamlined, but this was what I have experienced anyway.

Ah! Another issue I’ve noticed with Splidebox is it does not obey Blazy’s “Lightbox caption” settings. Basically no captions at all. And that caption thing is pretty essential for my humble site : )

By the way this closeable thumbnail carousel below the large display that Splidebox brings is fantastic. I wish it was available in Blazy Photoswipe too.

Also, again this may be related to errors in settings, but I observe a significant slowness throughout the site when I use Splide modules.

By the way this is an absolutely non-commercial, and essentially a hobbyist site, so although I sincerely wish that I could be able to fund you and other devs, this may not seem to happen, considering the current economics, unless a positive twist of fate occurs and people start banging the doors asking if any of the artworks can be purchased : )

Looks like I'm going stick with core responsive grid and standalone Photosipe 4x. Another reason for that is the lack of a readily available grid gutter spacing setting in Blazy grid

Again, many thanks for your time and explanations.

All the best

Q

As a matter of fact I did

Curiously enough, my humble question there is disappeared, (deleted ?) No comments, nothing.

Hi,

I'm a bit puzzled as to why this issue has been closed, with the assumption that it's a duplicate of #3409207: Views Caption? How?

Unless I'm overlooking something glaringly obvious, it seems impossible to display captions in any views-based block or page with an image field. Perhaps it's just me, but overly summarized instructions don't provide much clarity either.

Here's the process I've followed: I create a views block or page, add an image field (media: image), select Photoswipe as the formatter, and at that stage there's no option available for selecting a caption type. After saving and visiting the block or page, there are no captions visible at all. Yes, the caption sub-module is active, and the CSS class 'photoswipe-gallery' has been added, but still, no captions appear.

In the 4.x version, when Photoswipe is selected as the image field formatter, there is an area available for selecting the caption type. I'm not entirely sure if the presence of this area is the determining factor, but regardless, there are no captions visible in the 5.x version when used in views.

The proposed solution mentioned in #3409207: Views Caption? How? is rather cryptic, especially for someone who is trying to learn about Drupal and its modules. While I fully appreciate the effort that developers put into their work, I believe that more detailed explanations would be immensely helpful.

In summary, should we expect to see captions in any views-based blocks or pages with image fields, or is this functionality omitted in the 5.x versions?

P.S.: In classical (non-views based) content created based on content types, captions are visible.

Cheers
