Thanks for your reply, wombatbuddy!  I’ll try. I would like to be able to work with the data in the external database as I would with a content type that I created in Drupal. E.g. change the display name of a field or the order of fields to be displayed in the standard view – via the Admin panel. Another use case: A user edits a data entry (using the default edit mode for a content type). Then, the changes should be saved back into the external database.

I hope it is clearer nor what I mean?
