I have the same issue. When upgrading from drupal 10.0 to 10.1. I have PHP 8.1.
In ProcessBase.php line 171: Unable to decode output into JSON: Syntax error. Fatal error:
User deprecated function: Drupal\Component\Assertion\Handle is deprecated in drupal:10.1.0 and is removed from drupal:11.0.0. Instead, use assert_options(ASSERT_EXCEPTION, TRUE). Everything works until I try composer updb -y.
