I believe the issue lies not with the module itself, but rather with the Claro theme, which is overriding the module's styles.
I've successfully applied the readme.patch; however, during the application, there were some warnings regarding whitespace errors. I have enclosed a screenshot for your reference. Please take a look and do the needful.

I've reviewed and tested MR !6 but your changes are not fixing the issue as your code is not working. It would be good if you put the steps to reproduce so that it would be helpful for others to fix the exact issue.
