Update. I succeded to solve the issue downgrading Maria DB from 10.8 to an LTS, the version 10.6.

I put here other configurations just for sake of completeness.

--max_allowed_packet=1G
--innodb_buffer_pool_size=256M
--tmp_table_size=64M
--max_heap_table_size=64M
--wait_timeout=600
--connect_timeout=60
