Provides themes for the Drupal 8 Toolbar module. The main purpose of this module is to provide compact, minimal themes for the Toolbar and allow the site admin to show or hide tabs and icons.

Installation

Install like all other modules, then go to: ~/admin/config/toolbar-themes/settings

About Themes

A toolbar theme is a collection of CSS, JS, icons, yml definitions and optionally templates and preprocess functions. There is a base theme that includes full overrides of all of Toolbars CSS, icons and templates (your theme can declare this a a base and inherit those assets/templates etc).

Modules and themes can provide additional Toolbar themes, please see the documentation.

Three themes are provided by default:

Toolbar Mini - a miniture version of the standard Drupal toolbar
Admin Menu - a riff on the old D7 Admin menu
Seven - a light coloured menu with colors complimentary to the Seven admin theme.

Additional features:

Hide or show tabs (default is hide)
Hide or show icons (default is hide)
Override the font size (default is 12px)

When tabs or icons are "hidden" they're really unset entirely, i.e. not using icons is more performant than showing them (no SVG, no JS, less markup and CSS, less reflows etc).

DX/TX/UX

This is a substantial rewrite of Toolbars CSS (all the original CSS files are unset), and icons are now asynchronously loaded embedded SVG rather than using background-images. This allows us to style the SVG with CSS.

Toolbar Themes uses it's own drop menu CSS (unsets Admin Toolbar CSS) so we can support the font size override and support mouse out (using a CSS transition), so the drop menu does not snap-shut if you momentarily mouse out. This vastly improves the UX of the drop menus.

I built this module because I wanted a much more compact menu, that I could easily hide in one icon while designing in the browser, also I was tired of fighting with Toolbars CSS and background-image icons, so in the end I just built my own module and it morphed into this. Hopefully you find it useful.

Compatibility with other Admin/Toolbar themes and modules:

The Admin Toolbar module is fully supported and recommended to provide drop menus and extra tools. The combination of Toolbar Themes and Admin Toolbar provides a much better Developer and advanced Site Builder experience.

Admin Toolbar (recommended)
Toolbar Menu - add extra menus to the Toolbar (you must have the tabs enabled in Toolbar Themes to see these).
Adminimal Admin Theme - the caveat here is that the font-size override is disabled for Adminimal due to the way it hard codes margin top on body.
