The functionality of Paths and Clean URLs is not clearly differentiated. Prior to digging around for a while, it was my impression that Paths would allow me to use clean URLs. It was only once I was into the settings screen that I realized that the ?q= was still part of the URL, and then someone else pointed out the Clean URLs. This could be avoided by more clearly tying these two sections together, as they're functionally linked in many users' minds.
Suggestions for a fix:
* This should be noted in the settings for Paths, and a link to configure clean URLs should be provided (particularly if it's currently not on), and vice versa.
* In the edit screen for each path alias, when clean URLs is off, the path is shown to include the '?q='. This should be included on the list view for admin/config/search/path in the same way, as part of the hard coded string before the variable to make it clear to the user that this is
