Initially tested patch in #799856 - Upgrade for Notifications 6.x-4.x and have now switched to OG 6.x-2.x-dev.
If a user has both a "Content type" subscription (either through the default content type subscription provided by Notifications or a custom subscription) and a "Content type in group" subscription for the same content type, they will receive two emails when that content type is posted to their group.

I am seeing the bug with Notifications and Messaging 6.x-4.0-beta6, as well as the 6.x-4.x-dev version.
In my case, I realized I actually didn't need the "Content type in group" subscription as well and have removed it. But thought I should mention the duplicate emails thing anyway.
