Given that there are (at least) two directories where a module might have come from, and that those have sub-directories which are searched, it is easy to see scenarios where experienced developers and/or newbies end up having the same module installed twice, but only one of them is picked up, and their attempts to edit those modules will be quite confusing if they edit the wrong one...
I believe it would be beneficial to have a full disclosure on the admin->modules list page to show the path of the module that was actually loaded.
It would have saved me three days of grief :-)
