calling $getID3->analyze($file->filepath); results in white screen

This issue is related to the one I posted for ad_flash a while ago: saving a flash advertising results in white screen. I traced execution path to the line that is calling $getID3->analyze. That is where execution stops and nothing returns. No errors in php log. Nothing in drupal logs. I am looking for ideas.
