Make it easy to change node type when creating content

If a user starts out creating a page, they might not be too sure exactly what the difference is between, say, a page and an article. The user may thus be hesitant to commit to creating a page when they might actually need an article. This patch adds a select list to the top of node forms that allows users to switch node form through AJAX. This is useful because not only can users see the differences between the various forms easily, but they can start creating a page, and then switch to an article on the fly if they decide that would better suit their purposes. The content is transferred to the extent possible from one node form type to another, and all data is preserved for the case that the user decides to switch back to the original form. This patch will not make any difference for browsers without javascript or with javascript disabled. A series of screenshots below:

Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.

    Thanks!
