Parent display link & Instance form: Wording & naming

Created on 17 September 2025, 14 days ago

Following Add a button island to leave the builder Active . Put on beta1 because of eventual plugin ID change.

Problem/Motivation

The naming and wording of parent_display (ParentDisplayButton) island is confusing:

  • label: "Parent display link"
  • description: "Allow a direct link to parent display."
  • tooltip: "Go to the parent display that manage this instance."

Because of those 2 terms:

  • "Parent": how is there a parent? Is it part of a tree? There are children too?
  • "Instance": what is an instance? Since the big renaming, it is clear for us developers, but not for users

Same for instance_form (InstanceFormPanel):

  • label: "Instance form"
  • description: "Configuration of the active element."

"Instance": what is an instance again? it is not the same "instance" as in parent_display island. it is called a "node" since the big renaming but "node" is an internal technical term we are not exposing to users

Proposed resolution

Naming is hard, so this is just an humble proposal.

leave (LeaveButton):

  • label: "Leave"
  • description: "A link to leave the display builder."
  • tooltip: "Leave the display builder."

contextual_form (ContextualFormPanel):

  • label: "Contextual form"
  • description: "Configuration of the selected source."
