Geocode autocompleted addresses without the leaflet map showing

Problem/Motivation

On a simple end-user facing form we want to geocode the addresses, keeping the autocomplete and select, but do not want the additional map displayed - for simplicity.

Proposed resolution

Include only the geofield input field, hidden, populated with the same javascript as present; don't display the leaflet map.

Remaining tasks

Either:

Make a patch for geofield default input to optionally hide it;
Add CSS to hide the present geofield default input (but how to make that optional?)
Make a simple widget that extends the default that is hidden

I've sent a message to itamar to ask if the first is an option; otherwise suggest we go with the third.
