Good idea for a plugin module! I was trying to implement this on a site where the fields don't completely overlap from the remote site. When I installed and tried to pull the entities, it seemed that the plugin was being bypassed altogether. I then realized the issue is that within prepareEntityData, I'm getting the "No entity found" error because I'm importing a new item. I verified that $entity_json_data is populated correctly. Maybe I'm misusing the module, but I don't think we can load the entity at this point in the processing because it doesn't exist on the client site yet.

Moreover it's been a long time since I worked on it.
Meanwhile, if you identify a problem and you think it can be quickly or easily fix feel free to propose a patch/MR.
