• Python is generally a stricter adherent to the original markdown specs

Both https://squidfunk.github.io/mkdocs-material/reference/lists/#using-order... and https://www.markdownguide.org/basic-syntax/ and https://docs.gitlab.com/user/markdown/#task-lists document lists as 1. not 1) so I think its safe to assume 1. will work fine in all environments.
