Does “Append current page” work?

Problem/Motivation

The third checkbox from the top labeled as “Append current page to breadcrumb” does not seem to work for me at all. Independently from its state, the node title always appears as the last breadcrumb at the end. Based on its description, I'd expect that the node title should be added to the breadcrumbs only when this checkbox is marked but omitted when unchecked. Grepping in the source code of the module version 2.0.0 results in no evidence that this setting is being used to control any logic anywhere.

Am I missing something here?

Searching among the closed tickets of this module → , I see similar issues coming up several times around this functionality, which increases my concerns about whether it is supposed to work.
