Drupal 10 and 11 compatibility fixes

@bisma qadri Your patch appears to be the combination of #3361245 and #3475769, is that right? Then we could close the other tickets in favor of this.

The work for D10/D11 will be done in #3361245.

I will keep the ticket open until 3.x is released so that the patch can be found more easily.
