File field validation messages not getting displayed

Problem/Motivation

In my project I use the toastify module in both default and admin themes. When I try to upload a file over the allowed file size, the field widget just refreshes without any message getting displayed at all. As a result, the end user is not aware of what went wrong.

Steps to reproduce

In a new Drupal installation using the Standard profile, enable the toastify module. Create a new Article node and try to upload an image larger than the allowed size. No messages get displayed.
Disable toastify from loading in the current theme: the messages will display properly.
