Improove progress bar output of update execution

Created on 20 March 2025, 17 days ago

Problem/Motivation

Dear developers,
I am a big fan of the Automatic Update Module. However, there is one thing that I find very irritating time and again.
After selecting a module for which an update has been provided and clicking Update on the http://localhost/admin/reports/updates/automatic-update-extensions page, a wonderful percentage display appears. It feels like the update takes much longer this way than with Composer and Drush. The reason for this is quite simple.

The protocol output, which tells the user what is happening in the background during the process, is missing here.
There would be enough space below the batch process's progress bar to output more information about what is happening in the background.

Maybe some users feel the same way and we can consider together whether we should include the output that composer -v update or composer -v require generates in the batch process. In terms of time, there is probably no difference at all, but because you suddenly no longer see what is being executed in the background, the update with Automatic Updates via the Drupal user interface feels very slow overall.

Steps to reproduce

Proposed resolution

Detailed visual protocol output for the user during the harvest loading of the relevant modules in addition to the percentage bar.
