Option the frontend is not changed despite displaying the toolbar

Created on 13 March 2025, 2 months ago

Problem/Motivation

For example, the vertical toolbar on the left-hand side inserts a padding on the left (padding-inline-start: var(--gin-toolbar-x-offset, 256px) !important;)

Depending on the design that was used in the fronted theme, design elements suddenly shift in an unusual way due to the intervention of the Gin Toolbar in the existing frontend theme. I understand that this is partly necessary, because otherwise certain links etc. in the frontend would be covered by the toolbar etc. BUT from my experience this confuses customers more, who as a logged in admin suddenly perceive the frontend design differently, partly with shifted elements than without the toolbar.

Steps to reproduce

1. Install gin and gin_toolbar
2. Set gin as the admin theme
3. Use another theme for the frontend
4. Set Navigation (Drupal Toolbar) to "Sidebar, Vertical Toolbar (Default)"

Proposed resolution

I know that there is a possibility to collapse the vertical toolbar (or soon), but this does not help the problem, because the open toolbar still moves everything again.

That's why it would be great to have an option that says the toolbars and admin theme elements that are displayed in the frontend float above the frontend theme and don't change the frontend in any way.
