Can't get commerce_recurring to work like in the documentation

Problem/Motivation

So I've installed recurring and license, and now I'm going through the setup process:

There is this sentence:
When the trait is enabled for a product variation type, two new fields are added to product variations of this type. One is a reference to the billing schedule configuration entity. The second additional field is a reference to a Subscription Type plugin.

After creating my product and adding one variation, I see the license fields, but not the recurring fields.
Even though, in my variation type, I believe I've configured things correctly?
